From Imitation to Improvisation: Orff Pedagogy in Today's Music Classroom

DETAILS:
Imitation, exploration, literacy and improvisation are the building blocks with which students acquire musical skills and concepts. These learning stages weave together to develop knowledge and musicianship. This workshop will provide many thoughtful and engaging lessons and activities which will enhance your curricular goals while promoting student musical understanding and expression. Folk songs, original material as well as pieces from the volumes will be explored.

Integrating Ukulele in the Orff Classroom

NOTE: Registration is limited to 40 participants.

DETAILS: Ukuleles are a great addition to the Orff classroom.  They are small (suitable for young bodies and hands), light-weight, versatile, affordable and their sounds blend nicely with all Orff instruments. Join Len and Jennifer for a morning of exploring melody, chording and ukulele happiness through games, improvisation and working with the Orff instruments. Prior experience with the ukulele is not necessary and ukuleles will be provided.  Feel free to bring a ukulele if you have one. Please bring a recorder if you have one.

DETAILS: Keeping students engaged in the classroom from kindergarten to upper elementary can be a challenge. This workshop will cover both ends of the spectrum. For early years, discover how to keep your kindergarten students engaged with fun activities, games, and songs. For the upper elementary students learn how to incorporate the recorder into your classroom with ideas on how to introduce note reading, and improvisation and composition techniques for even the most reluctant student. Come out prepared to play, create, sing, and move. Please bring a soprano recorder.
